I meet lots of interesting and engaging candidates at senior level in the course of my business month and lately there has been a trait arising that is now becoming very evident. And that is that many senior execs in FM are being shown the door and compromised out of their roles due to the fact that they won’t “go along” with the company’s plan to prop up this year’s finances with money set aside for sinking funds. The story goes along the lines of “if you won’t, then you go, and we’ll find someone who will……..”.
Now, to be clear I am not saying it is widespread but it has been said too many times by too many senior folks that, to me anyway, there must be a grain of truth in it.
Whilst it is obviously bad news for many there is a silver lining in this cloud and that is that when the truth outs, as it ultimately will, certain senior executives will get fired for malfeasance and take some of their top team with them. This will leave recruitment opportunities for us to address.
My prediction is the second quarter 2013 for the shoots of this weed to surface and it will only get bigger until it is dug out.
PS Since I wrote this I have had further input to say that it is not only sinking funds that are impacted. One further story that I’ve been told was of the company that is not carrying out maintenance but is still charging the client for doing so; to aid their profit this year. Stories like this are really alarming to me. However, it is pleasing to see that there are still folks out there with highly moral behaviours.
